Paraffin in crude oil crystallize and become deposits over time as oil flows from the bottom of the well up to the ground. This phenomenon leads to pipeline plugging and decease in production, requiring an increase in injection pressure. Rhamnolipids and lipopeptides are effective emulsifying agents of crude oil components and oil/ water systems, and therefore can both prevent crystal formation and remove paraffin aggregation from the inside surfaces of pipelines. In this way these surfactants serve as effective tank and pipe cleaners.
